Brighton Pavilion Fantasy
I was feeling the need for some color after a very grey and stormy weekend. (Hurricane Irene was visiting.) The Brighton Pavilion is an amazing confection of Indian Fantasy, a vivid imagination on the part of the Prince Regent, soon to be George IV and a lot of cash. How can one not love it? We visited Brighton earlier this month on a day when it seemed that a distant cousin of Irene's was also visiting. Acrylic on canvas. 14 x 11"

Today was sadly the last day of my Paper Mache Class. My students produced some amazing and wonderful creatures. Here is Lisa's Deer, hopefully reminding all his lively peers that this is not the right garden for them. (Tastefully covered in an old College textbook - Greek, of course)

Sykes ventures out into the garden for the first time. Now almost 98% dry and covered with a final layer of Japanese Mulberry Bark paper he only needs a coat or two of paint before making a proper debut.

Skyes the Skunk in an early stage of his development. At this point he was rather an unbalanced character. The armature is chicken wire stuffed with the Financial Times. A first layer is taped on and he waiting for the first layer of glue.

A Recent Talk
This past week I had the pleasure of speaking to the Old Greenwich Art Society. The topic was "The Devil is in the Details" and I talked about using the crucial detail to make a piece "sing." As part of the presentation, we did a fun exercise using only security envelopes and a glue stick, backed onto computer paper. No scissors, only torn edges. Below are two wonderful examples from the class. And the great/sad thing about this project is that you probably have everything you need to replicate this idea at home already. But at least it makes paying bills just slightly more interesting.
