New Orleans. New map
New Orleans - amid its watery element. Still have to add the labels but making the map makes me think of all those wonderful walks when I visited there last month. Somehow the act of map making helps one understand the spirit of a place.

Having finally finished all the necessary research, Jane Austen begins to assemble an invaluable guide to the city of Bath (UK)
Preliminary research and a more finished map with relevant notes. One hopes Mrs Bennet and co will follow her good advice.

Insomnia in the Mission - mapping coffee shops in the Mission
If it's tough for Google Maps to show all the Coffee shops in the Mission, in San Francisco, then how much harder is it for the humble map maker. Constant change is the only permanent. Ink on paper, 14 x 11 " . Most of the greats are there but who knows 6 weeks from now .

Last weekend I had the good fortune to be in Watch Hill, Rhode Island as the Artist in Residence at the fabulous Ocean House Hotel. A gorgeous, glamorous setting, the most beautiful beach imaginable and some amazing weather. What could be more inspirational? But first a map of the area to set the scene.

Personal Maps
Over the Summer I was lucky enough to take a workshop with the delightful Connie Brown, an amazing mapmaker, at www.redstonestudios.com. Inspired by Connie and by the very different but equally charming site, www.theydrawandtravel.com, I decided it was time to do a personal map making project with my class. So here is the Best of Greenwich, covering Greenwich proper in map 1 and Cos Cob, Riverside and Old Greenwich in map 2. Suggestions for highlights to be added to these maps are always welcome.
