Quick sketch at the Beach
Painting and sketching today at the beach with a good friend. Also swimming in the sea for the first time this summer. Amazingly wonderful.

Mosaics for the Wednesday Summer Class
Working on mosaics for the Wednesday Summer class. I recently read that one can add mosaics to paper mache so decided to try, using a hare that I made last year. The hare seemed to lack focus so I decided to add a touch of glamor to his otherwise rather mundane existence.

July 4th, red, white and blue. A touch of "faux coral" made by painting curly willow branches red.

What could be easier? and now I might even be able to find my phone in time...
Recycling
A 15 minute project that solves 2 problems very nicely. The first problem was that since my phone is black and my bag is also black I can never find my phone in time. The second project was some old canvases taking up rather too much space. So I removed the canvas from the stretcher and 15 minutes later had a new phone case... The most difficult part of this was just turning the canvas inside out. The end of a brush helped enormously to poke the corners out.

Getting Ready for "Summer Camp"
Every Summer I teach a series of classes at my studio. Weather permitting - which is not always as often as one would like - we paint outside. Here is a view of the "Outside Studio" ready and waiting.

Our third visit and finally we got to Taos Pueblo. (The first two visits were too early in the year.) Totally, totally wonderful. Huge open sky, the ring of mountains, the river and the colors and shapes. 1,ooos of photos later and only just beginning to describe the experience.

A Walk in the Woods
If you can't go for a walk in the woods, this has to be the next best thing. Week three on ferns with my Tuesday and Thursday art classes. Lots of fabulous ferns, all different, some with butterflies and bees. Acrylic ink on pages from a very dilapidated enclopaedia from the late 19th Century. Vol 11, from ROP to SPE. The only problem with the project was that some of the entries were so fascinating, one kept stopping to read them. Take, for example,
"Penny Savings Banks" of which there were 100s at one time......
More Ferns
A few days later...
Fern Frenzy
I love Spring and I particularly like seeing the young ferns re - emerge after their winter hibernation. There is something so lovely about the immature fern fronds, tightly closed like a baby's fist. Lots of journal pages.
