You Are What You Read.
Another self portrait for the same project. This time in collage, including a Metro North timetable for hair, part of a map, a Tazo Earl Grey tea bag for the shadows, part of the Financial Times and of course some of my favorite Japanese "running script" paper. I drew first, painted a little and then reached for he glue stick.....
A Second Self Portrait.
Self Portrait
The Bruce Museum is sponsoring a community self portrait project. The public is invited to submit self portraits, the only constraints being that they must be anonymous and they must be 6 x 6". So last weekend I began. This was my first effort, in what I describe as the "German Expressionist Nightmare" genre.....
Self Portraits - recalling a recent triumph.
While I have been working on the Self Portrait project for the Bruce Museum, Lancelot has also been doing a self portrait. I did tell him that it had to be 6 x 6" but I don't think he had his listening ears on. In any case, he was not a whit perturbed, informing me that the painting was already spoken for, being destined for a keen collector in Chicago.

Basket weaving
Cynically I thought Agile's interest in basket weaving was because of the delicious lunches served at Heart Space Studio. I never imagined that Agile would prove to be a natural basket maker. Editor's note: To understand the context of this posting it is necessary to read the basket making/paper weaving entries on the home page.

Kettle's Yard Colors
Kettle's Yard is like an English Summer - Wintry whites, thundercloud grays and the very bleak putty of a weak sun. Occasionally there is the odd splash of cobalt blue sky (in a mini Miro) or a dash of red in a woven textile but the overwhelming impression is cool, wind blown and bleak. And yet, it is the most amazing place. The genius is in the attention to detail, to the combination of textures and to scale. With the juxtaposition of the manmade and the natural world, art by the side of tree roots, winkle shells, dried grasses and rough wood and stone. Kettle's Yard seduces one into thinking one could almost do it oneself..... that anyone could achieve this after a walk on the beach or in the woods.
A Grand Day Out
On vacation in the UK. We decided to attempt the near impossible - there and back to Cambridge in one day. About 7 plus hours of train travel and connecting through London. We left home at 6.45 am and returned home triumphant. Kettle's Yard, the home of former Tate curator Jim Ede and his wife Helen, has long been on my bucket list. Last year Charleston (home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant) was top of the list. This year Kettle's Yard.
