With a vast Winter storm predicted, the studio is a good place to be. Prior to starting a big map of Dartmouth College I decided to begin with a small one as part of the necessary research. Too cold to spend much time outside and the river is frozen solid. But underneath the ice the fish await the coming of Spring.
If it's tough for Google Maps to show all the Coffee shops in the Mission, in San Francisco, then how much harder is it for the humble map maker. Constant change is the only permanent. Ink on paper, 14 x 11 " . Most of the greats are there but who knows 6 weeks from now .

Manhattan- a theme park for adults. Detail showing the circus elephants arriving by night. This annual elephant parade which only ended in March '13 marked the visit of the circus to Manhattan. Acrylic on wood panel. 24 x 24". Now on show at The First Bank of Greenwich.
Wisely avoiding the Christmas rush, Lancelot prepares a site information map to help Santa Claus land correctly. Hopefully no more parking tickets this Christmas Eve.
So nice to see Lancelot over the Thanksgiving weekend. He was in excellent form.

Closely observed 6 - the 6th annual student show will open on Monday, November 11th. There will be an artists' reception on Sunday, November 16th, from 2 to 4pm. All are invited. The invitation image is a beautiful autumnal collage created by my students
Halloween is one of the highlights of Lancelot's year. A festival of feasting and costumes that brings out the creative genius of everyone in the Design Studio. The pumpkins are carved and lit in preparation.

So last weekend saw me wrestling with a large papier-mâché scarecrow, getting ready for the annual scarecrow making competition at the Bush Holley House in Cos Cob. Sunday was a glorious day but my scarecrow did not do a very good job of keeping the birds away.
Autumn gale this past weekend so time for a storm at sea painting. Watercolor 22 x 30". Perhaps Moby Dick will get his revenge.
